Before proceeding into final art, it is important that Laser Cut Paper has an opportunity to review your design for suitability. Laser cutting has some unique characteristics that may not be obvious to the first time user and we may be able to prevent some costly and time consuming problems.

In general, it’s useful to think of laser cutting as another off-line process such as foil stamping or embossing, or perhaps a spot color. It needs to be kept as a separate layer with common reference points like crop marks so it can be tied to the other processes and properly positioned on the sheet. Laser cut art can be supplied in person or e-mailed as a digital file. We accept artwork files in native Illustrator (.ai) or PDF format.
The following guidelines apply to all art submissions:
• The design must have line weight appropriate to the material being cut
• The laser cut art must be on a separate layer from other processes
• The areas to be cut away must be filled solid, no “die-lines”
• The laser cutting must be represented as either positive or negative, not both
• Complete art files are required if other processes are involved
Additional information required for each project:
• Paper weight, finish, coating, manufacturer, etc.
• Sheet size being furnished for cutting and final trim size
• Information on all other process applied before or after laser cutting
• When in doubt.....send everything and call us.
Laser Cut Paper’s goal is to make this new medium as easy as possible for you to use.
